Kathy Van Kleeck

Silver pendant with rough diamonds. $105.

New to the Gallery, local jeweler Kathy Van Kleeck, is a passionate jewelry designer using "silver and gold and bronze and copper metal clay formed and pinched and wrapped around gemstones and steel and strung and laced and sewn and soldered into objects and trinkets and ornamental treasures to wear and hold and empower the creative spirit."

Kathy is self-taught and her medium is a relatively new material called Precious Metal Clay (PMC).   She began working with PMC in 1998.  PMC consists of fine silver powder in a clay-like base.  Each metal clay component is formed by hand and is unique. Her fingerprints are visible in each piece, quite literally, the hand of the maker.  After forming, the metal clay elements are fired in a kiln; the clay burns out leaving the now-fused pure silver.  After more than 12 years, PMC continues to inspire both her and her work - work that is driven and defined by her love of texture, composition and balance - in nature and in life.

In each of piece of her jewelry,  you'll find her signature blend of rustic elements in classically inspired silhouettes . . . jewelry designs that, while being firmly rooted in her own urban sensibility, have a primal and somewhat ancient quality.  Styles will vary, but the work will always be authentic, spirited . . . jewelry for your soul.

Silver earrings with rubies. $150.

Bracelet $135.

Triple disk earrings $135.

Robbie Elizabeth Diffey's Hand Embossed Copper Jewelry

Hand embossed copper leather cuff $58.

Using the material copper dates back some 10,000 years across the globe.  In Ancient Egypt copper was used for jewelry and ornaments worn on the body to keep away evil as well as to show social status.

Our new copper artist and Charlotte resident, Robbie Diffey grew up in a small delta town in Mississippi.  She spent her spare time drawing, mostly silly cards and pictures for friends and family.  At the very young age, she married her true love and moved to North Carolina.

Her drawing took a back seat while adjusting to married life and taking up a new hobby - showing and training dogs. Self taught as an artist, she has since taken up art again, drawing, creating mixed media collages and jewelry. Her love of animals comes through in her exquisite hand embossed copper jewelry. Robbie features floral textures, horses and dogs on her cuff bracelets and earrings.

Copper bracelet $64.

Diffey's glass and copper earrings $45.

Glass bean and copper disk earrings $39.
